3 Mistakes Every Affiliate Makes

Being an affiliate is not easy and that’s why we try to give you tips that can help you get started and improve along the way. We started out as affiliates and we want to help other affiliates to grow their business. The goal in affiliate marketing is simple: motivate people to buy things and make money doing it. The task of making it happen can’t be summed up in a short paragraph but summarizing a few of the basic mistakes we see affiliates making can help you get there faster.

Think Long-Term

When you step into the affiliate industry you’re in it for life. It doesn’t matter what vertical you use or what your source of traffic is; it is one of the best jobs in the world - guaranteed. With that being said you need to think about your next steps and have a business plan in mind.

You need to think about what you want to achieve and how. Once you’ve got that sorted, be careful not to push it too hard. If you’ve found a source which works, don’t overuse it. Instead, try to turn it into a long term, sustainable source of income.

Remember also, don’t lie to your affiliate manager. If you promise something then make sure that you can deliver the results. Networking and reputation is key to success and nobody likes someone with a big mouth and no results. You also never know when you’ll bump into them again, so be sensible, humble and make practical targets that you can achieve.

This is something which we need to remind affiliates of time and time again. The theory is simple, the more you organize your operations and the more you optimize and track your campaigns, the better results you will have.

There are lot of tools at your disposal that can help you with this and, if you stay tuned to our blog, we’ll be reviewing all of the best ones available to you. That being said, there are still guys out there who are not using any tracking and stats and just pushing traffic. For some, it can work, however, the campaigns would be even more effective with a little extra care given to them.

Remember, track all your campaigns, analyze them afterwards and act based on the data you collect.

Education

You are never too old or too skilled to stop educating yourself. Don’t be afraid to buy a good book or pay for good training. Whilst it may sometimes be true that the more it costs the better it is, always look at reviews online first. Forums and blogs are a great, and often free, way to get great advice. You should also attend as many conferences as possible and always try to be among the first ones to try out new stuff. If you educate yourself well and beat the competition to new tactics then you will gain a competitive over the competition.
